The Tarpan has been recently re-intorduced after becoming extinct in the 19th century. The Tarpan has a long face and convex profile, with long ears and a powerful, short neck. |

| Height: about 13hh. | |
| Conformation: The head is large, with massive jaws and thick neck. The back is short and strong, with very low withers. The hooves are dark and very tough, never requiring shoes. | |
| Character: calm disposition, friendly, curious and affectionate. | |
| Uses: presently being used in riding programs for physically and mentally handicapped riders. |
