European eventing champion Tina Cook has won the British Equestrian Writers’ Association personality of the year award.
Cook, a double 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, landed her first European individual title in Fontainebleau two months ago.
And she was also part of Great Britain’s European gold medal-winning team in France alongside William Fox-Pitt, Oliver Townend and Nicola Wilson.
Cook’s fellow eventer, Wiltshire rider Laura Collett, took the most outstanding rider under-25 award. Collett won individual and team gold at the 2009 European Young Riders’ Championship in Belgium.
And Welsh showjumper Carian Scudamore scooped the under-18 award – she is the current European junior champion – while dressage star Laura Bechtolsheimer’s Mistral Hojris was named horse of the year following medal success at the senior European Championships in Windsor.
Pony Club chief executive Judy Edwards, meanwhile, won the Liz Dudden Trophy for contributions to equestrian sport.
The awards were presented at today’s annual BEWA lunch in London.
